The Day Before is a zombie survival MMO coming to PS5, and it looks kind of like a mix between The Division and State of Decay. Except, apparently, less exciting than either, judging by the latest gameplay released by developer Fntastic.
The environments look great, admittedly, but very little actually happens. We see some light exploration and looting, a bit of weapon modding, and shockingly few zombies. Honestly, the whole thing looks like a tech demo, which is bizarre, considering The Day Before was initially meant to launch next month, on 1st March.
That was before a shady-sounding trademark mixup pushed the release back until 10th November; apparently, no one at the studio thought to trademark the title of the game before it was announced.
If you've heard anything about The Day Before, it was likely that the title was one of the most wishlisted games on Steam (no longer), but the more we see of this game, it seems all sizzle and little substance. Then there's the weird way in which Fntastic describes its workforce, some of whom are reportedly not being paid for their efforts.
What do you think of The Day Before? Are we missing something here? Let us know in the comments section below.

This game is a scam in the making
Not sure I see the point of it, it all seems very mediocre. Is one supposed to just endlessly run around collecting bandages?
This is a scam. These devs have been showing this game off on PC for years and have been using a lot of the same in-engine footage to try and drum up hype for this game.
It’s well dodgy. Reminds me of Abandoned in that it’s a bunch of unknown devs creating false hype. Although this at least seems to be a mediocre game rather than complete vapour.
Skill Up has been covering this and the whole thing sounds very shady. The fact the gameplay doesn't match the claims by the Dev doesn't shock me.
The environments really are the only thing I could compliment in the demo they showed. The combat looked off, the zombies looked like barely any threat, the UI looked bare bones...
I don't know if I believe it's a scam though because scams are usually supposed to look appealing on the surface to people. This just looks like a bad game so if it is a scam...well it's not a very effective one.
@Korgon
You can watch any Youtube video that would explain why this game is a scam way better than I ever could. Developer with an abysmal track record, allegations of stolen assets, every piece of footage being proven to be so staged it is laughable, the game being dropped from Steam, it just goes on and on.
I watched the demo and, compared to the carefully curated trailers previously shown, it's embarrassingly bad. I played both Division games extensively and this was like watching the absolute roughest version of either game, with all the personality and detail sucked out of them.
The zombie rendering and animation reminded me of enemies in Wolfenstein - the original one. Low res, jerky and bore no relation to the admittedly more detailed environments.
Weapon upgrading looked generic but OK, and again a lesser version of what the Division and other games have done before.
Exploration was noticeably restrictive with the character going into three buildings but only accessing one or two initial rooms of each. Maybe that was a time thing, but it definitely raised alarm bells.
The whole thing just felt... off.
@PegasusActual93 Ok if they are scamming, then who are they scamming? Can you give us a little something or is it just a trendy word that it is cool to use? They have never asked a single dollar… no funding, no pre-orders, no donations. Use a word fake but this that they scam, WHO? Themselfs?
@showface
They spent years trying to market a game using fake gameplay and empty promises knowing that the final product was never going to resemble anything that was shown. Trying to trick your customers into buying a game that isn't anything like what was marketed is textbook scam. It's like those terrible mobile ads.
@PegasusActual93 What could the final game be like? Just Downgraded or totally different game?
I was excited back when it was announced, but it's been too long. You snooze, you lose. And to think they didn't even trademark the name of the game before announcing it to the public? That seems to be only the tip of the iceberg at this point.
Steam's appetite for janky survival schlock is insatiable.
The Nay Before...😆
