Don't do this to us, Capcom. Don't go making a website specifically to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dragon's Dogma and then act like we haven't spent the last decade asking for a sequel. Don't do it!

The website's real, though, and it bears a rather intriguing message. It reads: "Dragon's Dogma, first released in 2012, is celebrating its 10th anniversary! Thank you, Arisen, for taking up arms and braving through the impossible challenges laid ahead of you. We are forever grateful for your support throughout the years and hope you will join us in this momentous celebration of Dragon's Dogma!"

Mon, 23 May 2022 23:45:00 GMT PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Will Be Playable Offline, But Will Require Weekly Validation Prove it or lose it.

Sony’s not going to suddenly mandate online connectivity for the games included in its new PS Plus tiers, but a weekly handshake will be required to ensure you still have an active subscription. The company clarified on the PS Blog: “When playing a downloaded game from the game catalogue in PS Plus Extra and Premium plans, you’ll need to connect to PSN every seven days to validate your PS Plus membership and maintain your access to the game.”

The reason for this is fairly self-explanatory: it’s to prevent you from downloading a game and then continuing to play it offline in perpetuity. The same validation was required for PS Now as well, although it was a 14-day check-in period there.

Mon, 23 May 2022 23:30:00 GMT Sony Confirms PS1, PSP Trophy Support Is Optional, Up to the Developer As expected.

Trophy support for PS1 and PSP games through PS Plus Premium? That's up to the developers. We had assumed this would be the case, but it's nice to have it confirmed by Sony all the same.

In a newly published FAQ, the Japanese giant makes it clear that Trophy support is not mandatory for classic PlayStation titles. It reads: "This feature is optional for developers". Case closed.

Mon, 23 May 2022 23:15:00 GMT PS Plus Premium's Cloud Streaming Does Not Support PS5 Games But everything else is on deck.

One of the perks of PS Plus Premium in countries that offer it is the ability to cloud stream games on PS5, PS4, or even PC. This means that you don’t have to download any software, you can just jump right in – albeit with caveats, like reduced image quality and a heavy dependence on your Internet connection’s quality.

But while you’ll be able to stream PS4, PS3, PSP, PS2, and even PS1 games with PS Plus Premium, there’ll be no support for PS5 games. This means that All PS Plus Games like Returnal, which is exclusive to the PS5, will be available to download only. The same is true for cross-gen releases like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, where you’ll be able to download the PS5 and PS4 versions, but only stream the PS4 version.

Mon, 23 May 2022 23:00:00 GMT New PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Will Be Added in the Middle of Each Month Sony confirms two PS Plus updates per month.

Sony has given us a little more insight into the new PS Plus tiers, Extra and Premium. As previously reported, the game selections for both of these tiers will change over time — but now we know when these refreshes are going to happen.

For PS Plus Essential — that's the current PS Plus, just renamed — the monthly games will continue to drop on the first Tuesday of each month (and of course, Extra and Premium subscribers also get these games as part of the deal).

Mon, 23 May 2022 21:15:00 GMT Guide: All PS Plus Games PS5, PS4 games available for PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium.

What are all PS Plus games? PS Plus, also known as PlayStation Plus, is Sony's subscription service for PS5 and PS4. The subscription is divided into three tiers: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. On this page, we're going to list all PS Plus games across all three subscription tiers, as well as any expiry dates you need to pay attention to.

It's worth mentioning that there are benefits to being a PS Plus subscriber beyond all PS Plus games listed on this page. The primary perk for PS Plus members is online multiplayer, but subscribers will also get 10GB of cloud save storage space for PS5 and PS4. This is in addition to exclusive discounts and demos. Mon, 23 May 2022 20:15:00 GMT Resident Evil 3 PS5 Upgrade Could Be Close to Release PS5 recognises upgrade path.

The native PlayStation 5 version of Resident Evil 3 may not be too far away from release as it's been spotted the PS5 is recognising the free PS4 to PS5 upgrade path after inserting the disc. Spotted by Twitter user BSAAEurope, the console asks if you want to upgrade the PS4 version of the game to the PS5 one, but the link to the download isn't live just yet.

This may suggest the PS5 version of Resident Evil 3 will launch in the near future, with native versions for Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard on Sony's latest system also set to follow this year. All three titles will be treated to visual enhancements on PS5.

Mon, 23 May 2022 19:49:00 GMT Oh No! Some PS1 Games on PS5, PS4 Look to Be PAL 50Hz Versions Update: But others are NTSC 60Hz.

Update: So, it appears there’ll be an aspect of lottery over which ROMs Sony use for its retro PS1 emulation on PS5 and PS4. While, as reported below, Ape Escape is using the PAL 50Hz version, other games like Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Toy Story 2, and Tekken 2 are using NTSC 60Hz. Your mileage may vary, then…

Original Story: After the disappointing launch of the PS Classic, which unfortunately used PAL 50Hz ROMs as opposed to the superior NTSC 60Hz versions, many had hoped that Sony wouldn’t repeat the same mistake. However, with Asia beginning to get its hands on the new tiers of PS Plus today, we’re beginning to learn a little more about the platform holder’s retro support. And unfortunately, when it comes to Ape Escape at least, it’s using the PAL release – in Indonesia at least.

Mon, 23 May 2022 18:45:00 GMT PS Plus Games for Asia Officially Confirmed A more complete list at last.

As we reported earlier in the day, PS Plus officially launches on 24th May in Asia, which due to time zone differences is right now. Sony has, as a consequence, finally been forced to publish a more complete list of All PS Plus Games. Still, there are a few caveats to keep in mind.

For starters, there are approximately 300 games across both tiers here, which falls dramatically short of the 740 or so promised by PlayStation previously. Even if we count both PS5 and PS4 versions of some titles as separate games, it still falls short of the pledged total. Sony’s website offers the following clarification: “These games are now available to play as part of the PS Plus Asia launch. More titles will be added soon, along with the lists of catalogue games available in each country/region as PS Plus rolls out.”

Mon, 23 May 2022 18:00:00 GMT Mini Review: A Monster's Expedition (PS5) - Chill Out with This Relaxing and Intelligent Puzzler Logging on.

All good puzzle games are built upon a simple, singular idea, and A Monster's Expedition is a perfect example of that philosophy. This game is all about pushing down trees and moving the logs in order to cross to the next island. However, doing so can be much tougher than that sounds, as developer Draknek & Friends gradually, and cleverly, explores the idea to its fullest.

The game is set across hundreds of small islands, and the only way across the water is by making bridges and rafts from logs. These logs can only be manoeuvred in certain ways, though; the game is grid-based, and so you'll first need to wrap your head around what movements are possible and how obstacles like tree stumps, rocks, water, and indeed other logs affect the puzzle. Paired with the smooth visuals and beautifully gentle soundtrack, the puzzle design feels logical, elegant, and rewarding, even if your character's movement is a little stiff.

Mon, 23 May 2022 17:15:00 GMT PS Plus Premium's PS1 Games Have Separate Trophy Lists for PS5, PS4 You can double up on Plats.

Another quick update on how Trophies will work with some of the PS1 games coming to PS5 and PS4 through PS Plus Premium: it's looking like titles that support Sony's digital trinkets will feature two separate Trophy lists. This means that you'll be able to earn all of the Trophies twice, should you play the games on both PS5 and PS4.

To be clear, the separate lists appear to be identical in terms of content — it's just that one is a PS5 list and the other is for PS4. Still, this could be useful information for all you Trophy hunters out there.

Mon, 23 May 2022 16:45:00 GMT Multiple PS1 Game Trophy Lists Have Been Revealed Platinum Trophies for all.

As the new PlayStation Plus prepare to launch across Asian territories, even more details concerning the classic PS1 titles are hitting the web. Now, courtesy of Exophase, we have the Trophy lists for Syphon Filter, Intelligent Qube, Hot Shots Golf, Ape Escape, and Wild Arms. That final one hadn't been confirmed for the service, so it's another PS1 game to add to the official list of All PS Plus Games.

Better yet, all five have Platinum Trophies, with the overall lists consisting of 16 to 19 Trophies. Wild Arms, however, has 38 gongs to unlock. Many of the lists attach Trophies to story progression and performing specific stunts during levels. Ape Escape, for example, asks you to catch 100 monkeys and collect 40 Specter Coins. Meanwhile, Hot Shots Golf wants you to unlock characters and hit a hole in one.

Mon, 23 May 2022 15:45:00 GMT Third Party Publishers Probably Ditching Their Own Events This Summer Go big or go home.

The summer months have long been the time for gaming's biggest publishers to strut their stuff in public, but with E3 basically dead and buried, things aren't what they used to be. Over the last couple of years, we've seen third party publishers like Square Enix and Capcom host their own events — and it's fair to say that some have left a lot to be desired.

But this year could be a lot different. According to gaming hype master Geoff Keighley (as reported by VGC), third parties will probably be looking to peddle their wares at bigger shows. Keighley suggests that events like his own Summer Game Fest will be more appealing to publishers whose plans may have been impacted by the pandemic.

Mon, 23 May 2022 15:00:00 GMT Mini Review: Salt and Sacrifice (PS5) - Change Isn't Always Good in This Disappointing Sequel We got salty, alright.

We all played Salt and Sanctuary, right? It was a solid two-dimensional 'Soulsborne' style action RPG, with a high difficulty level but a strong sense of balance and consistent feeling of progress. Enthusiasm, then, was somewhat prevalent for this sequel, Salt and Sacrifice. Unfortunately, we're a little disappointed with this offering, while still ultimately acknowledging that it's a pretty good time.

See, this second instalment offers a new feature — Mage Hunts. This adds some Monster Hunter special sauce to the double quarter pounder that is Salt and Sacrifice, and that sauce won't be to everybody's taste. You'll need to gather resources to summon Mages, chase down said Mages and murderlise 'em. If you fail and they, instead, murderlise you, they'll disappear from the map and the stuff you used to make them appear in the first place will be lost.

Mon, 23 May 2022 14:15:00 GMT Assassin's Creed Valhalla Patch 1.5.2 Adds Armoury, Loadouts, and New River Raid Rewards Back on the boat.

It's that time again: Assassin's Creed Valhalla is getting yet another meaty update on the 24th May. Patch 1.5.2 has not one, not two, but three headline acts. The first is that an armoury is being added to your settlement. You'll need to build it yourself, but once it's finished, you'll be able to display your favourite weapons and armour sets.

The armoury leads us neatly to the second point of this patch: loadouts. Valhalla players have been asking for loadouts for...well, pretty much since the game launched back in 2020. When your armoury is good to go, you'll have the option of using your displayed equipment as dedicated loadouts, which you can switch between when you're out in the open world. About time!

Mon, 23 May 2022 13:45:00 GMT Reminder: PS Plus Is Officially Rebooted in Asia Tomorrow Here we go.

The all-new PS Plus, with its trio of rebooted tiers, officially launches tomorrow – well, in Asia anyway. Sony is staggering the rollout of its revamped subscription service, meaning those of us in Europe and North America will have to wait. However, we should get a larger list of All PS Plus Games imminently – although it’s worth pointing out that there’ll likely be regional differences between Asia and the rest of the west.

We’ve already learned a lot more about PS1 games, as they’ve been made available in countries like Malaysia. We now have footage, for example, of how save states and rewind work in Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – and we’ve even seen some screenshots from PSP release Ridge Racer 2. We imagine more footage will begin to emerge over the coming hours.

Mon, 23 May 2022 13:30:00 GMT Guide: Best PS5 Games All the best PS5 games, ranked and rated.

What are the best PS5 games? The PlayStation 5 is the latest gaming hardware from Sony, released on 12th November, 2020 in North America and a week later on the 19th November, 2020 in Europe. Of course, it's the platform holder's most powerful, most premium console to date, promising a big shift from the previous generation thanks to some advanced bells and whistles. Its super-fast SSD cuts loading times dramatically, the Tempest 3D audio engine brings a new dimension to sound, and the DualSense PS5 controller brings new sensations with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

All this doesn't mean much without games, of course, and in PS5's lifespan thus far, we've seen a great number of amazing titles from all corners. The console's launch lineup is one of the best, if not the best, in PlayStation's history. The flagship game from Sony was Demon's Souls, a gorgeous remake of FromSoftware's PS3 cult hit, but it was joined by many enjoyable games, including more from first-party teams. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales got things swinging in style, Sackboy: A Big Adventure was a jolly platformer for the younger market, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War ensured the console had a CoD ready to roll. The thing is, nearly every launch game for PS5 is very good — you really couldn't go far wrong.

Mon, 23 May 2022 13:00:00 GMT You Suck at Parking Looks like a Maddening Dash Through Ridiculous Car Parks Watch the new multiplayer trailer.

Don't worry, You Suck at Parking isn't some scathing remark on your driving ability, it's just the name of this unusual little indie game. Developed by Happy Volcano, this is a top-down racer that swaps out a finish line for a parking space, and your goal is to stop within the lines — or as close as you can manage. Of course, various outlandish obstacles stand between you and parking prowess.

The above trailer is confirmation of the game's multiplayer mode, which takes the already madcap levels and throws up to eight players together, fighting to park in that precious spot. It looks like extremely chaotic fun — we can see this being hilarious and unbelievably frustrating in equal measure.

Mon, 23 May 2022 12:00:00 GMT Spider-Man Games Could Have Been Exclusive to Xbox Microsoft turned Marvel down.

Sony's Marvel's Spider-Man games clearly play a very important role in the PlayStation portfolio, racking up millions of sales over and over again. But what if the IP was instead exclusive to Microsoft? The head of Marvel Games Jay Ong has revealed how this could have been the case as the company approached both Sony and Microsoft at the same time, with the latter turning them down.

Ong makes the comments in The Ultimate History of Video Games, Volume 2 by Steven L. Kent, revealing how both companies were approached after Marvel cut its exclusive Spider-Man deal with Activision short. Ong told Activision that Marvel would "find a better home" for the IP, to which it responded: "Good luck finding your unicorn."

The game's now due out in early 2023, meaning nearly another year of waiting for the colourful, sunny adventure to hit PS5 and PS4. In the meantime, developer Awaceb has just released a short but sweet new gameplay video, and the game continues to look lovely.

The clip focuses on travelling across the open waters surrounding the archipelago in which the game takes place. You'll be able to fully customise your boat, sail to your heart's content, and then drop anchor and dive beneath the waves to discover hidden treasures. It just looks like a nice time, doesn't it?

Mon, 23 May 2022 11:00:00 GMT Next Gran Turismo 7 Update Includes Another Three Cars Patch out this week for PS5, PS4.

Although, fans are having a harder time identifying the third and final car included in the patch, but the site speculates it could be a C3-generation Corvette.

Mon, 23 May 2022 10:30:00 GMT Latest LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Patch Adds Extra Capital Ships, Kyber Bricks Thought you were done?

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga finally launched back in April, much to the delight of franchise fans. Interestingly, though, the latest update to the 3D platformer not only fixes problems, it introduces brand new content.

Late last week, the studio released a new patch for the game that makes "fixes to stability, quality, progression and performance issues throughout the title", but it also throws in four new Capital Ships to discover out in space.
